impulse dying

bleach - boots around £6 / colour restore cool ash hair toner scott cornwall - £7.99 (on offer) in boots / aussie conditioner / wash in wash out - rich warm brown £1.29 - superdrug / touch of silver shampoo £2.10 - boots /

after posting about hair care and reliving the ever changing colour of mine I decided to attempt a bit of   ombre dying as my hair is boring me. I didn't want obvious ombre just subtly as if i'd dyed my hair a few years ago and it had grown out. I resent having to pay hundreds at the hair dressers so always do dying myself as despite the outcome I usually am always happy with it just for the change

how I dyed my hair:

1. firstly I put a lot of conditioner on dry hair to try and protect it from the bleach

2. I sectioned the hair into four (pigtails) before preparing the bleach mixture.

3. with the prepared mixture, I applied bleach to the tips of each of the four sections

4. I then left the bleach mixture on for 30mins, I also put tin foil on the sections to protect the hair     before applying heat using a hair dryer

5. after the 30mins i took the hair out of the sections and started to apply the dye further up, putting in the odd highlight by selecting random strands to help the dye blend

6. using all the dye on the higher section of the hair i then left for 30mins again, repeating the tin foil and heat application

7. washing out the bleach i then immediately applied the toner, then leaving for 30mins

8. I washed out using conditioner only and then left to dry naturally to avoid further damage

despite the toner my hair still turned out VERY orange which was to be expected, to try and tone it/deep condition it again I made my own concoction using the above products and some olive oil and left on for hours

my hairs more red now although it doesn't really look it in the photographs. i've actually grown to like the orange factor and i actually think I liked it more before I toned it down, which is lucky the toner effects aren't permanent. the toner methods would work really well on fairer hair or blondes so would recommend trying it if you're ever bored.
